This haunted house that was for sale at the beginning of last year has sold! When we featured it, back in January 2019, I had no idea of its sad history. Here is its story.
The late 1890’s home may look like the typical Victorian of that era, but this house, called Whispers Estate, is anything but normal. Dr. John and Mrs. Jessie Gibbons purchased the house from a Dr. White in 1895. After remortgaging the house, they retrofitted an office and made a surgical room in the current bathroom where as a pediatric specialist, Dr. Gibbons performed surgeries.

The couple’s love for children led them to adopt three orphan children. Their daughter Rachael loved to throw jacks and throw balls in the home’s halls and rooms. Right before Christmas Day in 1912, she was sneaking a peak at some gifts when her dress got too close to an open flame. She died two days later from her injuries in the upstairs bedroom.
Charred wood marks from that terrible day still remain on a pocket door the dining room and parlor, and many believe Rachael’s spirit lingers there as well. As the story goes, a group of visitors, in an attempt to contact Rachaels’ little lost soul, left a doll for her in the bedroom in which she died. A little while later a ball with burn marks and a burnt odor, bounced down the stairs.
In 1934 another daughter died in the house, the baby Elizabeth. Then, just two weeks later, Jessie Gibbons succumbed to pneumonia in the same bedroom.
At least six people have died in this house. A young boy and a male servant are known, but there may have been more who passed away in Dr. Gibbons’ surgical room. Paranormal activity have recorded cold spots, orbs, whispers, singing and conversations that almost sound like a TV is on, but is not. The next photo seems to show the ghost of Rachael in the attic window.
Whether you believe in paranormal activity or not, it will make for an interesting conversation starter for the lucky new owners!
