ARTICLE

This Victorian home in a former mining town is full of spook and charm. Located in Silver City, New Mexico, it has five bedrooms and three baths, including an in-law apartment. The house was previously listed for $351,500 and the ghost rumors are real enough that they were even included in the previous listing description. It’s said that the spirits of pioneers Stefan and Suzanna Uhli haunt its halls.

OHC NOTES

As the Article section states, the original occupants, pioneers Stefan and Suzanna Uhli and their infant daughter Elizabeth, seem like the most likely ghost suspects. Mr. Uhli, a German immigrant who arrived in Silver City in 1880, was one of the town’s first settlers and made his fortune during the mining boom.

After opening the Cave Saloon in 1897, he became well known for his brickwork. Many of Silver City’s adobe buildings were replaced with “Uhli brick.” In fact, a whole block in town was formerly called the “Uhli block.” The Cave Saloon building is now part of an antique mall. It appears that Stefan died in this home in 1903 at the age of 40, and his infant daughter Elizabeth died suddenly here at the tender age of two. Stefan loved his adopted town of Silver City and, as local lore has it, never left.
