Historical Mauricetown! The magnificence of this home with water views is evident the moment you step onto the front porch. This Victorian Mansion offers so much character, space, and beauty. Enter, and gaze at the winding, three-story staircase, and witness the unique floor plan. You will be delighted with the architecture, original woodwork, and condition of this 1870~s home. As you enter the front door, walk with me to the expansive parlor which offers warm sunshine through the front and bow windows. As we continue around to the formal dining room, look at the built-in cabinetry, ornate millwork, pocket doors, and the hardwood flooring. Walking a bit further we pass a full bath to see the large kitchen with a new gas cooktop and counter to spare.

Follow me through another chamber room, without noticing the hidden second staircase, and saunter into the next room that mirrors the parlor with plenty of natural light, high ceilings, hardwood flooring and large living space for you to enjoy. We went right past the side door leading to the screened-in porch and we also stepped out the back door to see the two-story Cook House. So let’s go upstairs and visit the 4 bedrooms, unique layout, and additional full bathrooms.

There’s still more. We can go up another level and see the large finished space which hosted children’s bedrooms in past years. From this space, you can see the Maurice River, just a block away. The property consists of 2 lots, from corner to corner on Highland St. and is waiting for you to see the gardens. The well is 10 years old and a new heater installed when it was converted to gas 4 years ago. The kitchen and main level bathroom was added 15 years ago. Mauricetown is about 5 miles north of the Delaware Bay and 48 miles south of Philadelphia.

In 1994, Vice President Al Gore came to the Maurice River in southern NJ to highlight the designation of the Maurice River as National Wild and Scenic River. Mauricetown has a rich history; it~s like stepping back in yesteryear and is a small town consisting of two main roads running east-west and three side streets running north-south, forming about ten blocks of mostly residential buildings. The village is built on high ground overlooking the Maurice River, which supported the Mauricetown’s economic boom during the 19th century when the village was active in coastal trade and shipbuilding. In 2015, according to census data, the village had a population of about 105 people living in 93 houses. Most of these houses were built in the 19th century and have been restored to their original beauty. This home was owned by one of the original three Sea Captains.
